5 simple hacks for an aesthetically pleasing Instagram feed
Instagram – the app we all have a complicated love/hate relationship with. I’ve started and run a few Instagram profiles, and as much as I love the creativity and community, sometimes it can feel overwhelming to create the most aesthetically pleasing, coherent feed.
Since I am SUCH a visual person, Instagram definitely fills the need that I have to make things look beautiful and consistent. Some people, aren’t so “creative”, but still want to feel this need of having a curated feed, so I’ve put together a quick list of some tools and hacks to guide you towards creating an eye-catching feed that makes people (and me!) want to follow you.
1) Stay consistent with your brand.
You can have variety in content, whilst still remaining consistent. Ensure your feed has an overall feel that your posts and content mesh well with your brand messaging (if you’re unsure of your brand foundations you can read more about that here). Day to day you will be sharing different content, but your feed should still feel like a consistent narrative as a whole, and tell the same story.
2) Use high quality photos where you can.
I am aware that not everyone can splurge on hiring a personal photographer (I wish!) but there are plenty of other options for getting high quality photos. Look into free stock images, or a stock photo subscription. You don’t have to rely 100% on these images but it is important to have them throughout your feed to maintain quality.
3) Stick to a “theme”
What makes your Instagram feed feel unique and special? It could be anything from a filter you always use, or the type of imagery you choose to post. Its important that your feed strategically incorporates colour in a fun way to create a feeling when users are visiting your page.
4) Ensure you have variety in your Instagram feed!
Mixing up your feed with different types of contacts such as images, videos, quotes, digital content is important to keep it interesting! If I look at a feed that is just words, or just selfies, or just ice-creams (ok, maybe that wouldn’t be so bad?), I am not going to feel inspired to follow that account. If you’re feeling overwhelmed with creating so many different “kinds” of content, I’ve developed a “quote tiles” package to help out with this that you can use royalty free. Shop Here.
5) Be intentional with what you’re posting
Why are you sharing? What is it that you’re sharing? And most importantly – are you creating value? Curate your content on your feed so it feels informative and interesting whilst still look aesthetically pleasing. And if you aren’t sure what it is your followers even want to see, you could jump on stories and ask them!
If you are still feeling a little overwhelmed with curating your feed or working on a content strategy, I’d love to help you out.
