What I learnt from doing a 5 Day Mindset Shift
In late August I took part in the Startup Creative 5 Day Mindset Shift. My reason for joining Kaylene came from a place of overwhelm, lack of clarity, needing a lift and ultimately - needing a shift in mindset. What followed was not just another “online video training” session, but a real pivot in my mental state which lead to some big actions for my business. Now ideas have never been an issue for me, in fact.. I have too many (and if you’d like one, let me know! ha) but when it comes to actually creating actionable steps and deadlines.. I fall flat. A lot of us do. Here is what I learnt and what the 5 day Mindset Shift did for me:
I identified what I WANT and what that looks like
As Kay put in her first direct email out : “The number one reason most people don't get what they want is that they don't know what they want.” ― T. Harv Eker
How do we know HOW to get to where we want, if we don’t know “where” that is. I think all we ever need is permission, and here I found permission and space to look at my life, look at my business and my work and my creativity, and identify what was working, what wasn’t, and what I hoped for. What you focus on expands, and I felt immense ‘expansion’ the second I actually identified what it was I was actually focusing on. And as well as this, attaching EMOTION you want to feel in your goals and dream life that you map out. That first daily check in with Kay and the other 5 Day Mindset Shift attendants, really opened my eyes to the power and the science behind visualisation and how we can work to program our brains to create the life we want.
Environment and morning routines are the back bone to your mindset
Starting the day with a small win can boost your dopamine and motivation for the day - as simple as making your bed or tidying up your space. Achieving something gives your brain that “oooo we did good” feeling, and you will want to get MORE of that throughout your day. I thought about some little things I could add to my morning routine, and it’s been profound.
I stopped bouncing between ideas and got clarity
We have the ability to program our minds. I couldn’t even try to cover the amazing insight that Kay so kindly shared and educated me on in the Mindset Shift, but between the 86 billion neurons in the human brain and the hundreds of trillions of synapses (neuronal junction) we are constantly firing and wiring based on our thoughts. And if we can change these thought patterns we can change our minds. This is where I started to learn about fighting certain procrastinations I was experiencing, hacking my motivation, setting actionable tasks (and finally achieving them!!) and building lasting habits. One little insight I can share here that helped me: set deadlines even for internal tasks. I wanted to re-write, re-jig and re-launch my website, I’ve been thinking about it for months and it was always “next on the list”. It wasn’t until I wrote down “DEADLINE SEPTEMBER 18TH” that I actually did it, and here we are!
It reminded me to access inspiration and creativity
We all get stuck (especially at the moment) within our own 4 walls. We work on client projects, create the same content for our business and post the same things online. Putting ourselves in an unfamiliar environment (virtually for now!), feeding new data to our brains and carving out specific time to be creative has really changed things up for more recently. I have found it builds my resilience and allows me to re-learn that juicy “deep focus” state. As Kay shared “Imagination allows us to conceive of delightful future possibilities, pick the most amazing one, and pull the present forward to meet it” - Jason Silva
Honestly I could go on and on, I could share my 20 pages of journal notes and probably record about 10 videos explaining how much this has shifted my mindset.. but we all take what we need, when we need it. So take your time - but remember the resources, the learning, the accountability, the space to share.. it’s all out there. What’s stopping you and holding you back? You have everything you need. Its your mindset that just needs a little shift.
I’m aware this sounds like an ad, it’s not. In fact.. I didn’t even have to write this.. and maybe I didn’t even do it for you.. I think I did it to reflect. But here we are.
